Why is the PAM 57 Collectible and Hard to Find?
The PAM 57 is a super rare "shadow model"! There is no series (letter) or number indicating which of the 2000 regular production pieces of which this is. This series number is usually engraved on the case back under the BB serial number. It has been told that only one or two "shadows" were created and shown to the executives for approval of the earlier models. Sometimes these were kept by the executive, or given to an employee or even a dignitary, famous or important person. Most of these models did not receive boxes, papers or warranty cards, because they were not made for regular production.
Similar to a prototype, but most prototypes made by other manufacturers are given a number or engraved as "Prototype".
The PAM 57 is extremely functional because it is housed with an automatic Soprod Cal 9040 self winding movement, date, second hand and power reserve (with indicator) features. The titanium is light and durable, it has the patented locking crown, a tobacco (grey/brown) colored dial with a "hobnail" texture... and rarely found on Panerai models, making this model unique. It has become collectible in its own right. And last, it is just darned good looking! You will also enjoy the hand made distressed looking brown calf Italian Ferreti strap with a sewn in Pre Vendom style buckle.
