The 1997 special edition PAM 21 is in good condition but not mint. It has been professionally polished, but it does have some small but noticeable marks. I still rate the watch between 90-95% condition. It has the original platinum buckle, extra platinum case back, see through case back is on the watch, movement sticker, and parchment papers in leather folder. It does not have the original strap and most that were sold in the US didn't get them. For a period of time, US customs would hold the package up because you needed a fish and wild life permit to import the alligator hide. So Panerai just started cutting them off before shipping them. Of course Kevin has sewn on a magnificent pebble grain WWII ammo strap that looks killer on the watch. The color of the strap matches the tobacco dial making it a unique combination. Also, Panerai is helping me get a strap made from the original manufacturer of the PAM 21 strap. But, I don't have any guarantee that I will actually get it. The gold hands and dial are all excellent! The watch should have come in a special presentation box with a book, but they were lost during a move when the original owner moved to a new home. Luckily, I have an extra OEM Panerai special edition pearwood box (one that came with a PAM 140 or 127) and have added that to the package. This set isn't 100% complete, but pretty close. Many if not most of the ones owned by collectors are not complete, so this set is considered very good. Remember, only 60 were made!
In my opinion, this is the hardest Panerai to acquire. There may be a vintage Panerai or two out there that may be harder to get, but this is certainly the most desirable and hardest to find "modern" Panerai.

When it comes to having a Panerai collection, this is the "grand daddy" !
